Job summary

An Opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated chemotherapy scheduler to join the busy chemotherapy day unit admin team.

This is a rapidly developing team and requires a team member able to communicate with admin teams across the whole organisation as well as communicating effectively with the clinical teams.

You will be required to communicate directly with referring medical teams up to the level of Consultant, as well as communicating effectively with cancer services within the Gateshead NHS FT. You will be expected to work independently to support the departmental manager when required. You will also be required to support the admin team with some duties that cover the chemotherapy day unit reception.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for correct and timely scheduling of patients referred to the chemotherapy day unit for treatment. Your role will involve direct contact with patients and cares as well as other multiple NHS patient focused services. Your role will involve daily and extensive use of Chemocare.

Chemocare care is a bespoke E-prescribing and scheduling system used in the management and support ofthe care of patients referred to the department.

Clear effective written and verbal communication skills

To be aware of and comply with regulations concerning the Data Protection Act

Previous experience of working within the NHS or similar healthcare setting

Ability to provide flexible committed support with the ability to adapt to developing service needs

Ability to supervise others and allocate work appropriately

Desirable

  • RSA II or equivalent
  • Previous experience in scheduling or appointment bookings, ideally in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of the Trusts Policies and Procedures
  • Previous experience of working in cancer care

  • To assist the Chemotherapy Unit Manager to ensure patients are booked within the required timeframes using standalone IT system (in house training will be provided and will be supported by NUTH).
  • The post-holder will be required to develop and maintain good working practices with all staff. This will involve liaising with primary and secondary care personnel as well as providing a professional, efficient service to the general public.
  • The postholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
  • To actively participate in the Trusts Appraisal system.
  • To adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, eg. Health & Safety at Work and Fire procedures.

Guided by Trust policies and procedures but has the freedom to interpret and to initiate

action as required within sphere of responsibility.

8 EFFORT & ENVIRONMENT

Physical There is a frequent requirement for sitting in a restricted position, ie. at a

workstation for long periods each day whilst preparing reports and documentation.

Required to input data into computer databases and spreadsheets where speed and

accuracy are essential.

Mental There is frequent requirement for long periods of concentration. There are

frequent and unpredictable interruptions which require immediate attention.

Emotional - Regularly required to manage queries from anxious and distressed, or at

times angry, patients and their families.
