Older Persons Mental Health Liaison Nurse (RNN - BAND 6) - Gateshead

37.5 Hours per week over 7 days

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right person to join the Gateshead Older Persons Mental Health Liaison Team. The team is well established and high-functioning with a passion for delivering high quality care to older people. We are looking to appoint a clinician who is motivated and enthusiastic, committed to the delivery of the highest quality and excellence in mental health care, and whos leadership skills can inspire and influence others.

The ideal candidate would be a dynamic clinician with significant experience and expertise in caring for older people with mental health conditions. Team members work closely with colleagues in the general hospital to assess and plan mental health care in a general hospital context.

An interest in education would be desirable as the delivery of both formal and informal training is a feature of the job. The team is accredited with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The post-holder would be well supported by peers and a dedicated consultant psychiatrist. A flexible working approach is necessary in this role to respond to the clinical requirements and on-going service developments. The post holder would work within a 7 day Rota system and would be expected to work both weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

To work without the need for direct supervision, as an autonomous practitioner to provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing and risk assessments for patients in General Hospital care with primary medical conditions (specified service areas).

To work closely with the patient and relevant clinical team in preparing and delivering a treatment plan or interventions based on the assessment.

To give advice and support to the clinical team in promoting positive mental health for patients with a range of health related problems.

Upon request, and where appropriate, to identify suitable level of care and make recommendations based on psychiatric nursing assessment.
