An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the lung cancer team based at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Gateshead.
The lung cancer team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead are highly committed to improving the care of patients in Gateshead with lung cancer. Each year approximately 250 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in our catchment area.
The team consists of 7 chest physicians, 4 lung cancer nurse specialist a cancer care co-coordinator and 1 oncologist. The team is supported by 2 consultant radiologists and pathology services. Patients with lung cancer have complex needs requiring input from primary health care teams, specialist palliative care teams both in primary and secondary care as well as with allied health care professionals ensuring the best possible outcomes for lung cancer patients in Gateshead. The role of the Macmillan lung cancer support nurse will involve supporting patients from pre diagnosis to survivorship or end of life. Including complex symptom management and managing treatment side effects. The post holder will work as a support to patients as well as the lung cancer specialist nurses to provide a proactive, timely, supportive service to people at all points in their lung cancer journey.
