Do you want to work in a service that has achieved accreditation through the Royal College of Psychiatrists? If so, Gateshead Older Peoples Mental Health Service is for you!

A rewarding and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced and dynamic Clinical Manager to work within the Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) service following the progression of the existing postholder. The post will provide operational and clinical leadership covering the Older Persons Community Service in Gateshead which includes the Community Mental Health Team, Specialist Memory Hub, Younger Persons Dementia Service and Community Admiral Nurse Service.

You will join the service at an exciting time as the service is undergoing transformation to ensure our local aging population receives some of the best care in the area. Being an established service within an acute hospital provides us with the ability to work collaboratively with our counterparts to provide care to our patients in a timely way. You will work closely with the Community Business Manager and wider MDT, including the Clinical Manager for Inpatients and Clinical Leads to ensure that we are delivering safe, and effective person-centred care, and treatment to our local population.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Manager is responsible for the safe, effective and sustainable running of the services and requires someone with strong leadership qualities and operational management experience. The ideal candidate will have significant previous experience of working in mental health services, ideally, but not essentially, with an Older Persons background.

The Clinical Manager will be able to effectively lead and manage teams within the locality and will be able to contribute to the strategic objectives of the business unit and wider organisation. The post holder should be able to demonstrate strong decision making and reasoning skills and be able to develop relationships both internally and with professionals from a variety of organisations.

The post holder should also have a good understanding of Community Mental Health Transformation and have a positive attitude toward change management and the evolution of services. The post holder will be confident in leading teams, identifying challenges and maintaining a positive working environment while also being able to think creatively.
