The Pharmacy team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is rapidly evolving to provide an advanced clinical service delivering direct care to patients while ensuring the optimal use of medicines within the organisation.
Assistant Technical Officer - Pharmacy Aseptic Services
Band 2
37.5 hours per week - Permanent
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our caring team of pharmacy assistants, technicians and pharmacists, to help deliver an efficient and effective pharmacy service to the Trust.
Main duties of the job
You will work in the pharmacy aseptic services department, supporting the safe preparation and supply of injectable medicines including cancer chemotherapy.
Experience of working in a pharmacy environment would be an advantage, however full training will be provided.
The successful candidate must have a good basic education with GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English; be able to demonstrate good computer and communication skills. They must be able to work as part of team and also under their own initiative; have a desire to work within the pharmacy profession and have a willingness to learn.
The role includes participation in the bank holiday rota, and requires the applicant to be flexible to support the requirements of the team.

Job responsibilities
- Assist qualified Senior Pharmacy Assistants in the preparation of sterile pharmaceutical products.
- Participate in the labelling of sterile pharmaceutical products.
- Undertake the preparation of emergency drug boxes.
- Assist in the environmental monitoring of the clean room suite, using settle plates and contact plates.
- Aseptically transfer ingredients from preparation areas into clean rooms.
- Undertake pre-packing and over-labelling.
- Assist with receipt of goods from the pharmacy store including checking off and putting stock away in the correct location.
- Replenish the stocks of consumables in the department and order new stock from the store.
- Assist in the issue and return of laundered garments to the regional quality control laboratory.
- Deliver prepared cytotoxics to wards and co-ordinate the removal of cytotoxic waste from the Aseptic Services Department.
- Answer telephone calls from wards.
- Assist in the disinfection of the clean room suite and clean air cabinets.
- Act as mentor to less experienced members of staff.
- Any other duties commensurate with the post when required.
