The Pharmacy department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is looking to expand the medicines management team to provide more patient-facing clinical pharmacy technician roles in line with the Carter review.
Our patient-facing clinical services are well-developed and continually adapting to ensure that our staff are optimally utilised to directly deliver high quality safe care to patients.
We welcome applications from Qualified Pharmacy Technicians who are looking for a development opportunity to become a Band 5 Clinical Pharmacy Technician within a hospital setting.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic Pharmacy Technicians, to contribute fully to the delivery and development of our Pharmacy service that is focused on getting the best out of medicines for patients. Post-holders must have a nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the GPhC.
The role will involve working closely with ward pharmacists, other pharmacy technicians and assistants as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team across the Trust. The post holder will help deliver a high-quality patient focused ward-based service and also participate in the delivery of a district-wide anticoagulant service once qualified to do so
This is a progression post. As well as acting as a key member of the pharmacy team, post holders will undertake training to become a certified medicines management technician and accredited checking technician before being promoted to a Band 5 Clinical Technician. Whilst in training, post holders will be required to rotate around the pharmacy department to gain the knowledge and skills required including dispensary, stores, procurement and medicines systems.

Undertake training to become a Band 5 Clinical Technician certified in Medicines Management by completing the modules set by HEE North school of Pharmacy, Including training to become an Accuracy Checking Technician as required.
Upon completion of the following training, the post holder will be promoted to the role of Clinical Pharmacy Technician (Band 5).
- Accuracy checking of dispensed Items
- Module 1: Assessment of Patients Own Drugs
- Module 2: Ordering Medication
- Module 3: Medicines Reconciliation
- Module 4: Clinical Pharmacy Technician Advanced Training
A maximum of 36 months will be given to complete this training. All relevant in-house support and training will provided including the allocation of an Educational Supervisor and allocated study time to complete portfolios. Additional to this, in-house training will be given to enable the post holder to participate in the operation of Anticoagulation Clinics once Medicines Management Modules are completed.
The post holder will gain experience in all areas of the Pharmacy Department including stores, dispensary, procurement and medicines systems in order to gain extensive experience moving forward into the Band 5 role.
