Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available in our Endoscopy Department here at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking Endoscopy Nurse Consultant.
As an Endoscopy Nurse Consultant you will be already experienced in working in endoscopy services and have a sound clinical management background, already display independent practice and be UGI & LGI trained with significant evidence of clinical practice. You will enjoy being an active participant in developing services through engagement and team work.
The post holder will be expected to lead the nurse endoscopist team and influence and support national, regional and local strategy in relation to endoscopy services and will represent the service at Trust wide clinical meetings. You will also be fundamental in supporting endoscopy training delivered through the North East Training Academy.
You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and display the ability to establish partnership working internally and externally to represent the service development.
You will be expected to communicate effectively in demanding and challenging situations and be a team player, you will be experienced in UGI & LGI and have at least 5 years' experience at Nurse Endoscopist level. As well as having a non-medical prescribing qualification and a Masters in advanced clinical practice or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
We have a busy and growing JAG accredited department consisting of 5 endoscopy rooms. You will be responsible for the delivery of high standards of care and will work against JAG quality standards. You will be responsible for the leadership of the Endoscopy Specialist Nurses and Nurse Endoscopists in Gastroenterology related services within the Trust. Developing staff potential and enabling transformational opportunities that support and develop high quality, person centred, holistic services in line with local, regional and national guidelines.
Operate at a strategic level to provide value based leadership across care pathways. Complimenting and supporting their Consultant Gastroenterology and Surgical colleagues and stakeholders in the development and delivery of safe, effective and good quality patient and carer reported, outcomes of care, this promoting clinical experience and best practice.
Work across the region with the nurse consultants from other trusts to further develop the regional endoscopy Nurse team.
Support the endoscopy training lead with the endoscopy courses by actively participating and preparing for these courses and ensuring QE Gateshead Regional Training Centre continues to lead training development in the region and nationally.
There will be an opportunity for the post holder to become an accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist to support delivery of the South of Tyne Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
