An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a motivated senior nurse to lead nursing and quality as the Chief Matron in Surgery at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

You will provide visible leadership, clinical supervision and support nursing teams across the business unit and the trust to achieve excellence in patient care.
The successful candidate will have significant clinical and managerial experience across a range of surgical specialties, strong leadership and change management skills; and be educated to Masters level or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
The Chief matron will work in collaboration with the Divisional Manager and Clinical Head of Service as part of the triumvirate reporting to the Operational Director, to ensure the provision of high quality clinical services and delivery of strategic, financial and operational service objectives set by the Trust board and Trust executive team.
- The Chief Matron will take specific responsibility for leading and supporting the development of nursing services within the Business Unit (BU) and the delivery of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy
- As the lead nurse for the Business Unit provide professional leadership, clinical expertise and advice to the Operational Director, Service Line Managers, Clinical Leads and Head of Service to ensure the provision of high quality, safe and effective patient care and continuous improvement of the patient experience.
- Take a lead role in the business unit on behalf of the Operational Director and supported by the Director (and Deputy Director) of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality to undertake the regular nurse staffing establishment reviews and recruitment to ensure safe nurse staffing levels across the Business Unit and wider Trust.
- Ensures the safe and effective use of beds, wards, estate and staffing across the business unit and wider Trust.

- To take a lead role within the Business Unit for ensuring governance structures and processes are in place, that appropriate risk management and shared learning takes place and that assurances of quality are provided to the BU.

- 1st Degree in Health related subject
