An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse with General surgery experience and Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. We are seeking an experienced individual who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about joint leadership in the provision of high quality care to this specific group of patients. Working closely with the General Surgery Consultants, Service line management team including the Matron, alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists, you will contribute to the appropriate assessment and treatment for this specialist group of patients.

The ward is a busy area with a high turnover of both emergencies and elective pathways. The ward also currently care for a small number of patients who fit into the clinically extremely vulnerable bracket with additional care needs under the care of the Medical Business Unit.

You should have substantial experience with nursing surgical patients and will be educated to degree level.

You will need to possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills and must be competent with using key trust systems (HealthRoster, SafeCare live and NerveCentre). Above all, you will be a compassionate leader with the ability to support staff at this unpredictable and stress full time.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the patient's clinical journey along agreed patient care pathways, supported by evidence-based practice.
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the ward/dept
  • To provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence-based practice in line with agreed local and national standards and the NMC Code.
  • To provide a continuously improving service in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives, and the NHS performance framework
  • To provide clinical leadership, expertise, advice and support to the nursing and multi -professional team to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients at all times.
  • To support and continually develop staff to ensure they have the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/specialty requirements.
