A fantastic opportunity has arisen, to join the senior pharmacy leadership team at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, to work in the role of Deputy Chief Pharmacist.
We provide a full range of Pharmacy Services: procurement, storage, supply, and dispensing of medicines; highly advanced clinical services; aseptic services; medicines information; medicines systems support; area-wide anticoagulant clinics and additional commissioned specialist medicines services. Out-patient dispensing is provided by our wholly-owned subsidiary company.
As an acute trust Global Digital Exemplar fast follower site, we are driven to deliver exceptional care, efficiently, through the use of world-class digital technology and information. Hence, you will be supported by a range of innovative digital medicines systems including the WellSky Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system integrated with 32 Omnicell automated drug cabinets, and fully interfaced with our WellSky Pharmacy Stock Management system and BD robot.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic leader with significant experience of acute healthcare pharmacy services.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties include:
To lead, develop and drive the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient, patient-centred pharmacy service to the Trust.
To lead, develop and drive a strategy that delivers a patient-focused clinical pharmacy service underpinned by an effective and efficient infrastructure of supportive services.
To deputise in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist.
To be responsible for leading, delivering, and developing pharmacy logistic services to theTrust that is efficient, effective, accessible and responsive to the needs of all users.
To provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters to medical, nursing and allied health staffpertaining to their work to ensure medicines are stored, prescribed, administered and supplied topatients in a safe, effective & economic manners at all times ensuring compliance withmedicines legislation.
To oversee the purchasing of all pharmaceuticals required by the Trust; ensuring the requirements of Trust financial instructions and drug contracting legislation are met and that there is robust control of medicines expenditure.
To lead collaborative work with partner organisations in both primary and secondary sectors
To foster a culture within the team, that is compassionate, inclusive and supportive.

To be responsible for the cost-effective procurement and stock control of all medicinal products and for their distribution, ensuring compliance with Standing Financial Instructions and other relevant policies.
To ensure that medicines are provided in a suitable form for in-patients and patients discharged from hospital and in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner with the appropriate professional advice to ensure effective use.
To provide daily operational direction within the department to ensure that there is equitable distribution of human resources to meet the demands of patients and services.
To implement, maintain and continuously improve effective systems for integrated medicines management to facilitate timely discharge of patients, and to reduce waste and expenditure on medicines.
To be responsible for ensuring that departmental key performance indicators are effectively monitored and services managed to ensure that any deviations from agreed standards are resolved.
To demonstrate effective leadership and management to support service improvement and transformation.
