Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologists to join the Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth CAMHS SPA. The role offers a valuable opportunity for people with a strong first degree in psychology, plus relevant experience, to further progress their career. Supervised by clinical psychologists, the post is highly suitable for candidates who aspire to future training in clinical psychology and other psychological therapy professions.
The main role within the CAMHS SPA will involve completing screenings and telephone assessment for families referred for neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD, as well as for referrals to the CAMHS SPA for general mental health difficulties, including conducting basic risk assessments as required, in conjunction with the supervising psychologist. The role will also involve collating and scoring standardized screening measures, writing reports, and completing other general tasks required within the SPA, such as completing audits, literature searches or developing resources within the SPA for referrers, children, young people and their families. There are also opportunities to help facilitate our brief intervention groups for families and there will be scope for shadowing and contributing to assessments and therapeutic work within the wider CAMHS teams within the boroughs. This role also involves regular Mental Health welfare check in calls to families and CYP
Main duties of the job
- To support the development, organization and delivery of a Triage and assessment service
- To contribute to the effective working of the SPA team by creating and maintaining databases to track referrals, assessments, interventions and producing reports from this data.
- To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations or published articles where appropriate.
- To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects to inform the Lead Psychologist and others in the development of Trust psychology and other services, training provision and research activities.
- Under guidance to conduct surveys with service users and carers to gather views on service provision
- To receive regular clinical and professional supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines and undertake personal training relevant to the post in agreement with the supervising psychologist and the manager.
- To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations and to support others involved in such situations.
- Facilitate brief intervention groups for families
- Undertake regular welfare check-in calls to families and CYP, reporting back identified risks to clinical leads
