Job summary

The ASPIRE programme provides paid clinical experience as an Assistant Psychologist for individuals who are looking to pursue a career as a Clinical Psychologist but have struggled to find paid work experience to support their career path. The posts are part of a specifically designed programme to provide valuable experience, insight and preparation to develop confidence in making an application to train in a Clinical Psychology Doctorate programme,

We particularly welcome applications from people of Racialised Minority Ethnic backgrounds, financially disadvantaged backgrounds and psychology graduated who are committed to contributing to developing a more equal, diverse and inclusive Clinical Psychology workforce.

We are looking to recruit 9 candidates for 6 months in a part-time paid clinical work experience programme. At the interview, you will be asked what service you would like to work in. The services are :

Aspiring Clinical Psychologists (swlstg.nhs.uk)

Main duties of the job

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the designated clinical team, across all sectors of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

To participate in related ASPIRE professional development events and participate in the program's evaluation as part of Health Education England's Aspiring Clinical Psychologists program.

  • To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems.
  • To work with other staff to assess service users , develop individualised intervention / treatment plans and review their care.
