Job summary
Are you a qualified nurse RMN, RGN, RLDN, RPN, a student qualifying in 2023 or are you an experienced nurse thinking about returning to the profession? South West London and St Georges (SWLSTG) Eating Disorder Inpatient services are waiting for you! This is a unique rotational opportunity to be involved in caring for a group of service users, as well as a comprehensive individualised healthcare provision for 1 young person.
As a registered nurse you will provide direct personal individualised care to patients, without direct supervision, as well as be able to co-ordinate the care given by your colleagues.
As part of the role, you will be leading on the delivery of comprehensive service user assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person-centred care in a collaborative way. The post holder will be responsible for coordinating a first-class service including assessment and rigorous monitoring of physical health, maintaining service user' rights, supervising junior staff and mentoring students, working collaboratively as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and maintaining a safe therapeutic working environment and accurate records.
As part of this unique role you will work across both Wisteria and the Wisteria Annexe, rotating at regular periods to ensure you get the maximum opportunities available in both departments.
Main duties of the job
- Leading on activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met including nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support. This will include coordinating therapeutic nutritional interventions as well as NG feeding.
- Co-ordinating and evaluating collaborate patient-centred care, getting feedback and improving plans as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
- Working directly with service users as a keyworker, leading on 1:1 sessions and formatting Care Programme Approach documentation in collaboration with relevant parties.
- Liaising with these MDT's and external partners and organisations to coordinate care.
- Providing accurate information about care in accessible formats to patients, relatives, and carers
- Administering and monitoring the side-effects of medication and monitoring service user compliance

We are passionate about nurse development and many of our band 5 staff go on to band 6 positions within the team. We offer bespoke 3 day eating disorder training including NG training and phlebotomy training, as well as training on therapeutic interventions. We actively encourage CPD and support nurses to advance their skills, becoming Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Practice Development Nurses and provide training opportunities in psychological therapy. Our teams are enthusiastic about Quality Improvement, we work closely with the QII team to continually improve the care we provide.
About us
Based at Springfield University Hospital, Wisteria Ward is an 8 bedded national inpatient eating disorders unit for children and adolescents aged between 11 and 18. The service is commissioned by NHS England and managed in the SLP CAMHS Tier 4 Provider Collaborative. The ward recently moved into a newly refurbished state of the art building.
Wisteria Ward as an inpatient CAMHS eating disorders unit provides the following treatment and aims to keep admission length less than 12 weeks focusing on weight restoration, supportive psychological therapies, individualised care plans, key nurse session, medical monitoring, communication and support for parents and family interventions.
The Wisteria Annexe housed within Wisteria ward is an individualised healthcare provision for one young person being transferred in April. The young person will be cared for by 2 x RMN, 1 x NA, and 2 x HCA's and will function as its own ward. This individualised healthcare provision is an innovative unique opportunity to be involved in. It will boast its own staff area with a rapid destress space for staff to be able to utilise during shifts, as well as a unique support package from senior nurse advocates. As part of working with this young person, bespoke training in relation to the Annexe and the care provided by the MDT will be provided.
