Highly Specialist Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist
This role can be for newly qualified Band 7 psychologist or experienced psychologist to be appointed at Band 8a.
We are excited to recruit a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to a new position in Kingston borough, that enables a smooth transition of young people from children to adult services. The role is part of the Kingston Complex Needs Pathway that offers treatments to people with complex emotional needs. This role will focus on transitions and the needs of 18-25 year olds and their families.
Complex Needs teams in the Trust are multidisciplinary including Clinical and Counselling Psychologists. We also have strong connections with Clinical and Counselling Psychologists in adult and child services and you would form part of these professional networks.
We welcome applications from final year or newly qualified Clinical / Counselling Psychologists Trainee Clinical Psychologists, with less than 18 months post qualification experience, who could progress from a Band 7 preceptorship to a Band 8a in this post. For preceptorship posts, there will be dedicated CPD funding.

Main duties of the job
This post offersa number of opportunities for further training and development; for example, to train in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), to develop this new CAMHS transition's role, develop family interventions and focused work for 18-25-year-old people. In addition, you will take a lead in the assessment and engagement of young people with complex emotional and relational needs.
The person recruited would need to be able to develop excellent relationships with the young person and their families/carers to enable trust to be developed to facilitate engagement and understanding of their difficulties.
You would also need to be able to work across the different teams involved in transitioning their care, both within the Trust and our partner organisations.
About us
You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team but will also have regular opportunities for support and working with other Clinical and Counselling Psychologists.
- Complex Needs Services for this role are based in Kingston, but you are also likely to work in the neighbouring borough of Richmond. You may also occasionally be required to travel to Trust Headquarters in Wandsworth for training and CPD purposed.
The Trust covers five boroughs of Wandsworth, Richmond, Merton, Sutton, and Kingston. Each borough has an established complex needs service. These services are currently being transformed across the Trust to ensure that all clients have access to the same range of treatments.
Kingston and Richmond are currently separate teams, but these are likely to merge under current transformation plans. The Kingston team is based at Tolworth Hospital and currently primarily offers DBT interventions.
The Richmond team offers primarily MBT and is currently located in Teddington but will move back to Barnes in due course. It is therefore likely that this role will cover both boroughs following transformation.

The Trust also supports staff to attend Health Education England funded training in a variety of interventions and has expanded the delivery of EMDR therapy over recent years, and this is another area for potential development.
