Due to the current postholder reducing sessional time, SWLSTG are currently looking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disabilities for a job share opportunity in the Wandsworth Learning Disability Healthcare Team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a psychiatrist in intellectual disabilities to join an established community learning disability team in Wandsworth. The post holder will demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence and an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, in order to provide medical leadership to the team. This is a varied role and will include working across the health and wellbeing as well as the mental health and complex behaviour pathways.

Main duties of the job
- To provide medical leadership to the team and lead on the assessment and management of adults with intellectual disabilities in the London Borough of Wandsworth referred to the team, along with other consultant colleagues
- To assess and review patients referred to the service via outpatient clinics, virtual appointments and home visits
- Individual and joint working with members of the MDT which include Community nurses trained in intellectual disabilities and/or mental health, psychologists, physiotherapists, dieticians, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and recovery support workers to offer support and advice about multidisciplinary management plans
- Support for emergencies during the day, including Mental Health Act assessments if required
- To liaise with other services and agencies as required including GPs, Social Services and other non-NHS organisations wherever applicable
- To undertake more complex capacity assessments and apply the Mental Capacity and Mental Health Acts appropriately
- To deliver pharmacological treatment in accordance with NICE guidance and STOMP/medicines optimisation
- Contribute to the strategic development and implementation of the service line
- Contribute on a regular basis to the medical and clinical audit processes and Clinical Governance activities undertaken within the Trust and in line with professional regulations, taking leadership for at least one audit annually

- Medical leadership, working in the multi-disciplinary team and working closely with, and providing cross-cover to Consultant colleagues and occasionally the Associate Clinical Director within NDD part of the service line.
- Overall responsibility for the day-to-day clinical care, risk assessment, risk management, initiation of medication and the recovery focused care delivered by the Team.
- Contribute to the planning and coordination of multidisciplinary assessments and interventions, ensuring that risk assessments are completed using the Care Programme Approach framework and communicated to the GP and other services as appropriate, in a timely manner.
- The post holder is responsible for managing referrals that are accepted to the caseload by direct input or attending and contributing to multidisciplinary supervision with other staff in the multidisciplinary team and providing advice and consultation regarding people with intellectual disabilities accessing the wider Trust and with other agencies.
- Liaise with the GP and other staff to ensure that physical health needs are assessed and met.
- Provision of psychiatric expertise on mental health and behavioural issues, including training, support, guidance and advice to team members, generic mental health staff and to other professionals, service users and carers.
- Availability within normal working hours for urgent review and management including formal Mental Health Act assessments.
- Domiciliary visits as required.

- MRCPsych, or equivalent.
