Job summary

Merton Uplift is the South West London & St. George's Mental Health NHS (SWLSTG) Trust's innovative primary care mental health service for the residents of Merton. We incorporate an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, a Wellbeing Service with Employment Specialists and Wellbeing Practitioners, and a Primary Care Recovery Service (PCRS). Merton Uplift is professionally managed by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and operationally managed by a Service Manager.

The high performing IAPT team provide evidence-based psychological treatments (CBT, IPT, DIT, BCT, EMDR) to people with common mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and eating disorders within the stepped-care model. The clinical team includes qualified IAPT High Intensity CBT Therapists, Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, who provide evidence-based psychological interventions in line with NICE guidance.

High quality supervision and CPD are a priority for the team. You will receive weekly individual clinical supervision from one of our senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologists or CBT Therapists within the service and you will be supported to obtain PWP registration status with the BABCP. You will have the opportunity to attend regular clinical skills groups and in-house training sessions facilitated by lead clinicians within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with substantial experience in delivering low intensity CBT assessments and interventions in IAPT to join our committed and hardworking team of clinicians as Team Co-ordinator. You will be providing low intensity interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. You will be responsible for coordinating the provision of telephone-based triage assessments and supporting the training and development of the service's Band 4 Trainee PWP and Band 5 PWP staff in the application of low intensity treatments. You will work closely with the Step 2 Lead and the Clinical Leads to ensure the Step 2 assessments and interventions delivered in Merton Uplift are of the highest standard and help the service to meet the nationally agreed access and recovery targets. You will contribute to the development and implementation of group low-intensity programmes for people with anxiety and/or depression. You will provide professional and clinical supervision to PWP's within the service which will include ensuring that all clinicians work towards their identified capacity. You will participate in staff recruitment and also assist in clinically related audits, project work, data collection, and teachings. You will receive regular clinical supervision from a Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist working within the service and have regular line management supervision with the Step 2 Lead.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will work clinically within primary care settings and be required to work flexible hours in line with the improving access agenda. The service operates from 9am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, and 9 to 5pm on Fridays and you will be required to work at least one evening per week.

Your working pattern can be negotiated and many of our clinicians prefer to work condensed hours to allow for a better work/life balance. In light of the Covid pandemic, the service is currently offering the opportunity to work remotely, with an expectation that everyone is in the office for two days per week to meet the demand for face to face appointments. It is likely that agile working will continue to be part of the job role moving forward.

Supporting clinicians We are also mindful that working in a fast paced service with people experiencing psychological distress can be challenging as well as immensely rewarding and we take a compassionate leadership approach to ensure that these challenges are acknowledged and staff are supported through wellbeing focused line management supervision.
