Job summary

We are seeking a Mental Health Professional to work in the SUN Service Team.This service is completely different from other services you might be familiar with. There is no care coordination and you have a maximum of two sessions in a day in a group setting. We provide therapeutic two and half hour group sessions to adults with longstanding emotional and behavioral problems (personality disorder), and who may feel they do not get adequate support from mainstream services. The service operates in community venues across five boroughs delivering a group model intervention.

You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse or social worker with post registration Mental Health experience, preferably within a community mental health setting. We would consider someone with risk and crisis management experience and extensive experience of working with people with mental health problems and not limited to personality disorder.

You will be committed to effective team working and to the coherent delivery of the SUN group model as required with a range of clinical skills in assessment, crisis intervention ,as well marketing and networking skills.

You will be committed to working creatively to provide a community service for people experiencing mental health problems. You will be well organised, able to work autonomously, have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be a team player.

Main duties of the job

Outreach Practitioner

Ideally you must hold a full driver's license and have access to your own vehicle. The role involves running group sessions in the community working alongside and integrally with the Trust wide personality disorder services and senior clinicians of the service to ensure that the treatment programme is delivered, monitored and evaluated.

To work as part of a team that provides mental health services that promotes Recovery .

  • To focus on providing support in groups , directly and flexibly to meet the specific needs of service users in accordance with their crisis and support plan (CASP).
  • To undertake, during groups, risk assessments and risk management and crisis plans as appropriate.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of the distress caused by, and social and personal consequences of, personality disorder for service users and their carers.

  • people with personality disorders Experience of working with people in a community mental health setting using principles of the therapeutic community

  • Experience of, and commitment to, a recovery based socially inclusive model.
  • Experience of working within an integrated multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience with client information computer systems
  • Experience of working with people with challenging behaviours
