Job summary
We are looking for an experienced clinical or counselling psychologist to lead on delivery of DBT skills groups within our community teams. You will be leading and supervising newly recruited DBT practitioners as well as working alongside team psychologists already delivering this intervention. DBT skills groups are one of the interventions in our personality disorder clinical pathway and you will need to work closely with the providers of the other elements of the pathway - Structured Clinical Management and our Complex Needs Services that deliver full DBT and MBT.
You will need to be trained in DBT to Intensive level or its equivalent. This post is a Trustwide position for our adult community services across the the 5 London boroughs we serve. As such you will be working across all these boroughs but with focus on where the greatest need is at any time. You will be expected to contribute to the DBT assessments and interventions provided by our Complex Needs Services to enable you to consolidate your DBT competencies.
You will be joining a large Psychology & Psychotherapies group in our community service line and you will be able to work closely alongside P&P colleagues. In particular we have a similar post for delivery of SCM and this will afford great co-working opportunities.
Main duties of the job
Clinically you will be reviewing referrals for DBT skills groups, conducting assessments and pre-treatment commitment sessions for this intervention and co-facilitating DBT skills groups. You will deliver assessments in our Complex Needs Services and deliver full DBT within one of these services. You will be responsible for ensuring there is a system in place for recording outcomes for patients accessing this intervention.
You will be responsible for leading on recruiting to DBT practitioners and supporting them to access the required training to deliver DBT skills groups. You will provide clinical and professional supervision to this staff group and support them to develop their competencies in assessing for the DBT skills groups.
As a senior clinician in the community service line you will be helping with the development of our personality disorder pathway. This could also include looking at the provision for people struggling with emotional dysregulation but who do not meet threshold for diagnosis.

Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology or alternative training outside of the UK that is recognised by the Health & Care Professions Council leading to registration in the UK as a Clinical or Counselling psychologist
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists / psychological therapist
- To be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council under the appropriate domain specific title
