Band 8a IAPT Step 3 Lead & Senior CBT Therapist

The successful candidate will work jointly with the existing Step 3 Lead & Highly Specialist Clinical Psychotherapist, to lead the high intensity team.

Main duties of the job

To be considered, you must be a BABCP accredited Senior CBT therapist or Clinical / Counselling Psychologist and have strong supervisory skills to support effective delivery of clinical and case management supervision to CBT therapists in the IAPT service within Step 3 (including trainees) and may also contribute to supervision of the low intensity (Step 2) team.

In addition to providing clinical and operational leadership, the post holder will join and work alongside an experienced & passionate Senior Management Team to ensure the smooth operation of the Adult Community Service Line, which includes (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring referrals are contacted in a timely fashion,
  • Assessment and treatment protocols are adhered to,
  • Appropriate decisions regarding stepped care are carried out smoothly and efficiently,
  • N.I.C.E. guidance is adhered to, and all clinical data is complete, accurately, up-to-date, and accessible where appropriate.

They will also hold a small clinical caseload, providing psychological assessment and high intensity therapy to clients accessing the IAPT service, provide advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to other members of the IAPT team, Sutton Uplift's MDT and other teams within the local care pathway.

This role sits within the IAPT team which is professionally managed by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and operationally managed by a Service Manager. The high performing IAPT team provides evidence-based psychological treatments (CBT, IPT, DIT, BCT, EMDR) to people with common mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and eating disorders within a stepped-care model. The clinical team includes qualified IAPT High Intensity CBT Therapists, Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners.

High quality supervision and CPD are a priority for the team. You will receive regular weekly individual clinical supervision from one of our Band 8b, 8c or 8d Clinical/Counselling Psychologists or CBT Therapists working within primary care. You will also have the opportunity to attend a monthly clinical training session facilitated by lead clinicians from across the SWLSTG Trust and to attend CBT training workshops led by highly respected clinicians in their field, for example, we have previously welcomed Andrew Beck, Anke Ehlers and Martina Mueller.

You will be supported to undertake and obtain accreditation in further treatment approaches, e.g., EMDR, IPT, BCT, and the majority of IAPT clinicians in the Trust have received funding to train in a number of further modalities of interest to them. Additional specialist supervision will be available for these approaches both during training and once it has been completed. We have also recently started developing secondment opportunities for clinicians interested in working in other teams in the Trust which has been positively received.

We have recently introduced several wellbeing initiatives to support our teams. Staff are supported through monthly line management supervision and our newly established active staff wellness groups organise weekly staff wellbeing events including reflective groups and yoga classes.

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and (for Clinical Psychologists) neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology ; or alternative training outside of the UK that is recognised by the Health & Care Professions Council leading to registration in the UK as a Clinical or Counselling psychologist and, oeligibility and willingness to apply for BABCP accreditation CBT Therapist oCompleted a level 2 British Association for Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) accredited training course in CBT leading to eligibility for registration with the BABCP as a CBT Therapist, or ohave completed a level 1 BABCP accredited training course in CBT and have met further training, continuing professional development and supervised clinical practice requirements to meet eligibility for registration with the BABCP, or ocurrently registered with BABCP as a CBT therapist through an alternative BABCP recognised route
