Job summary

We currently have vacanices for motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 occupational therapists to join our acute and urgent care service line.Our inpatient wards provide safe, holistic and recovery focussed treatment for men and women with mental health difficulties. The successful candidates will aid and oversee the activity coordinator in developing and running ward activities and will facilitate individual treatment sessions. The postholder will also undertake functional assessments, including home assessments, for individuals as required which may include recommendations for environmental adaptations, equipment/aids and support packages to maximise independence. You will be expected to liaise and work closely with the MDT, in particular the discharge coordinator and social services in providing recommendations to ensure and facilitate safe discharges. The successful candidate will carry out short-term specific occupational therapy work to promote recovery goals and facilitate independence, including signposting to external agencies as well as referring to community-run OT groups

Main duties of the job

The friendly and vibrant team on our wards consists of consultant psychiatrists, doctors, mental health nurses, discharge coordinators, activity coordinators and healthcare assistants. We work collaboratively together as part of the multi-disciplinary team aiming to achieve the best outcomes for our service users.

You will join our supportive and friendly group of occupational therapists which includes OTs in our community, learning disability, specialist and forensic service lines. We use the Model of Human Occupation as well as other assessments to review the client's environment, sensory preferences and physical disability.

We work closely with our service-user involvement team who support service-users and carers to co-design and co-produce work within the Trust. We have also collaborated with our colleagues from St. George's Hospital occupational therapy department where we engage in shared learnings.

Trust-wide Occupational Therapy Service:

We are working towards having a menu of high-quality interventions to develop expertise and consistency across the service lines and proactively promote occupational therapy within multidisciplinary teams.

We have regular OT forums for professional support and development and can arrange staff to shadow OTs in other services for development opportunities. You will be the team's Disability Champion to promote awareness within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring client's views and reasonable adjustments are implemented within their care. The successful candidate will be offered supervision from the lead occupational therapist.

We have recently developed our preceptorship programme which now includes: monthly training days, a development and support group and a reflective practice session to aid ongoing CPD learning opportunities and skill development.
