About the role
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic psychiatrist to join our group of CAMHS psychiatrists in South West London, within our CAMHS Service Line. The post is the first Psychiatry role within CECS and we are excited that an increase in funding based on demand has enabled the recruitment of other professions. The Service Line is currently reviewing additional development to ensure SWLSTG meet the needs of Children and Young People experiencing a mental health crisis as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan; the successful applicant will play a key role in this aspect of service development making this post ideal for someone looking to progress their leaderships skills in addition to clinical work.
The post will enhance skills in autonomous clinical decision making, assessment, risk management, development of leadership skills as well as joint working with multiple agencies/services. The post holder will be supported to achieve both service and personal professional goals through supervision and ongoing training.
Main duties of the job
CAMHS Emergency Care Service
The CAMHS Emergency Care Clinicians will undertake assessments for under 18 year olds presenting at A&E departments and will undertake a range of tasks including:
- Providing psychosocial and risk assessments, safety planning of young people experiencing a mental health crisis and advise about further support.
- Use evidence-based skills to support meaningful and safe practice such as Therapeutic Assessment, DBT Skills, Solution Focused Interventions.
CAMHS Emergency Care Clinicians
Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the CAMHS Services, CECS clinicians? undertake a range of tasks including the following:
- Initial mental health of young people presenting in mental health crisis
- These will take place mainly in A&E and on the paediatric wards of local general Hospitals.
- Provide risk assessments and safety plans to the family and multi-agency network supporting the young person
- Consult with Tier 3 CAMHS teams providing further specialist assessment if necessary.
- Provide a follow up appointment to review crisis plan and plan ongoing support to ensure a seamless transition of the young person and their family into the community service if required.
- Provide advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals working in other agencies and contribute to multi-agency care planning.

About the team
The SWLSTG CAMHS Emergency Care Service (CECS) provide Therapeutic Assessment and crisis planning for young people under 18 presenting with a mental health crisis to A&E's and paediatric wards in South West London. In addition to crisis assessments the team are also able provide brief therapeutic interventions and support to young people and families during follow up appointments. CECS Clinicians are also a key link to further support and liaise closely with the young person, family and other professionals to ensure a smooth transition to the appropriate treatment/ support. The team utilise skills gained in specialist training courses including Solutions Focused Therapy, DBT skills, Family Work and Therapeutic Assessment.
About the location
CECS provide a service to Kingston, St Georges, St Helier, Kingston and West Middlesex Hospitals. The team currently have a base at Springfield Hospital and are also provided with agile working equipment to support working from home where appropriate.

- The post holder will work in the CAMHS Community Outpatient Services.
- There are no after hours on call commitment.
- Developing and providing treatment plans which include the family/carers and liaison with national and local services.
- To function as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Providing medical advice and support to CAMHS Liaison nurses and other disciplines where appropriate.
- To attend and participate in clinical and team meetings.
- To maintain clinical records in accordance with the GMC and Trust standards, and to adhere to the GMC Code of Conduct. You will have access to mobile IT technology and offices in local CAMHS offices.
- To ensure, with other members of the Team, that Care Programmes, and Risk Plans are appropriate and updated and that clinical outcomes are recorded.
- To receive clinical supervision from the Consultant Psychiatrist.
- The post holder will receive an annual appraisal and will be re validated every 5 years
- To communicate with families about patient concerns.
- To work closely with other members of the CAMHS Liaison Team in developing treatment approaches for children, young people and their families.
- The post holder will be expected to develop education for young people, family/carers and other professionals as well as develop short term therapeutic work for young people who present with repeated crisis or self-harm.

The post holder will be expected to attend the Trust Medical Staff Committee, which meets on a regular basis. Additionally, he/she will be expected to accept where appropriate invitations to be a member of relevant committees where this is consistent with clinical commitments.
