Job summary
We are looking for a highly skilled clinician with excellent communication skills to line manage and provide professional leadership to the OT department, participate in the development of the service through involvement in the Forensic Management Team and coordinate the Forensic Recovery College.
You will have a degree/diploma in occupational therapy and post registration training relevant to mental health practice. You will have highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and inspire others. You will ideally have training or experience in leadership and will be able to represent occupational therapy at management level.
The occupational therapy service is well established and highly respected within the forensic service. The occupational therapists provide evidence based interventions, using the Model of Human Occupation to support assessment, collaborative treatment planning and structured outcome measurement. Occupational therapists, exercise therapists, sensory integration, technical instructors and activity support workers work collaboratively to run a comprehensive program of activities and therapy interventions.
Main duties of the job
- To lead provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service to services users within medium and low secure services, providing interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation and the Recovery Approach.
- To provide OT Clinical leadership and line management for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal.
- To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
- To contribute to the Forensic management team holding responsibility for defined projects.
- To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service.
- To monitor and maintain standards of OT practice as directed by the Head of Therapies
- To implement Trustwide Occupational Therapy strategy by overseeing OT Clinical professional development forums and participating in Lead OT activities as directed by the Deputy Head of Therapies for the Specialist services.
- To manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence based /service user centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
- To undertake regular audit and R&D activities.
- To oversee the supervision of OT students on fieldwork placements.
- To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.
