SWLSTG are currently looking to appoint a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry for the Richmond and Kingston Older Adult Community Mental Health Teams. The successful applicant will be based in Barnes and Tolworth Hospitals.
This is an exciting opportunity to join two established community mental health teams. The post holder will demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence and an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, in order to provide medical leadership to the team. This is a varied role and will include working across the Memory Assessment Service and the Recovery and Support Teams in two locations- Richmond and Kingston.

Main duties of the job
The job offered is working in both community mental health team and the memory clinics.
The postholder will have responsibility for the diagnostic assessment and treatment of older adult psychiatric patients from the designated area accepted by the service. The outpatient clinics and the home visits in the community will constitute the majority of the direct clinical care.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. They must possess the MRCPsych or equivalent qualification and must also be on the GMC Specialist Register for adult or old age Psychiatry (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR date within 6 months of interview. Applicants must also be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.

The post holder will work closely with the medical team covering Richmond and Kingston which consist of permanent full time consultants as well as rotating higher (full time (ST4-6) in Richmond and junior trainees working in Richmond and Kingston.
Kingston and Richmond teams are mature teams with its nursing staff able to undertake initial assessments of referrals including urgent referrals as part of an established duty system. They have established team managers and dedicated memory clinic nurses as well as in-reach sub teams into care and nursing homes. Richmond CMHT has Intensive Support Community Team.

- Joint working with CPNs, OTs and other members of the MDT to offer support and advice about the management of patients referred to the team.
- There is an opportunity provide supervision and teaching to medical students and core / higher trainees (depending on experience) based in the team
- Support for emergencies during the day, including Mental Health Act assessments if appropriate (Section 12 approval is a desirable but not essential requirement for the post).
- To liaise effectively with colleagues, both within and outside of the Trust, including GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
- To undertake capacity assessments and apply the Mental Capacity and Mental Health Act appropriately
- To deliver pharmacological treatment in accordance with NICE guidance.
- To support managerial priorities and tasks of the Trust
- Administration, audit and training.
- Attendance at Continuing Professional Development meetings and mandatory training events.
- Contribute on a regular basis to the medical and clinical audit
