Job summary
Halswell Ward is a 16 bedded ward situated within the Shaftesbury Clinic, Forensic Medium Secure Unit, Springfield University Hospital. Halswell Ward provides services for male adults (18 years and over) who present a risk to others and meet the acceptance criteria prior to admission. The ward operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Halswell Ward fits into a continuum of secure services for people detained under the Mental Health Act and classified with a mental illness or personality disorder. The focus is rehabilitation and recovery to achieve the best possible clinical and social outcomes for the individual.
Halswell Ward fits within a whole care pathway approach with secure and non-secure services working collaboratively with each other in order to ensure that the admission and any transfer within the care pathway is achieved seamlessly and efficiently. The pathway through care should be identified early in admission though may be subject to change depending on changing needs or circumstances.
Each service user will be treated and managed in accordance with a "care pathway". The Care pathway will be planned in consultation with the service user and, whilst not prescriptive, describes the individual's anticipated journey of transition into, through and out of the secure care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be working autonomously within the parameters of the role leading onimplementing the delivery of quality nursing care, contributing to the physical, psychological, social, recreational and spiritual care in a recovery-focused way through therapeutic engagement and activities, and taking steps to address any issues that arise. You will be leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support. He/she will be co-ordinating and evaluating collaborative patient-centred care; getting feedback and improving plans with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). He/she will be administering, and monitoring the side-effects of, medication; monitoring service user compliance.
You must have a proven ability to work effectively in a team and have excellent communication and IT skills.
