Job summary

The CYP Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team is one of three dedicated services formed from the 2014 service transformation model which features dedicated and local services in the directorate. We are an expanding, highly specialist team, combining expertise in CYP neurological disorders with specialist mental health assessment skills.

Main duties of the job

This is a band 8a 12-month secondment full time post suitable for an experienced Clinical Psychologist with an interest in neurodevelopmental disorders. As the successful post holder, you will be contributing to completing assessments for ASD and ADHD, using your expertise within the CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team. You will join a multi-disciplinary team made up of psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and nurses and work alongside assistant psychologists in the team. There is hope the service will continue to expand to meet the demand. The successful post-holder will receive clinical supervision from a clinical psychologist experienced in neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as group supervision from the team. There is also an opportunity for the post holder to be funded to undertake ADOS-2 training.

Job responsibilities

  1. To provide specialist assessments of young children and their parents/carers referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and where appropriate, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews in line with CYP IAPT methodology.

  1. To formulate plans and recommendations for evidence-based interventions, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, to improve the parent/child relationship.

  1. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual and the family.
