Locum Specialty Doctor

OCD/BDD NCG Inpatient & Outpatients

Seacole Ward and National OCD/BDD Service

The successful applicant will have a unique opportunity to work in this internationally renowned service and will be based in the National OCD/BDD Service which offers inpatient, outpatient and community treatments. The National Service liaises closely with other National specialist OCD/BDD services in the UK and overseas. There is an extremely active research portfolio in the unit.

The poste is FTE. There is no on-call associated with the post.

The post is intended for a doctor with appropriate experience in both psychiatry and day-to-day responsibility of medical care. Many of the patients referred to the service have multiple health problems and extreme self-neglect. Experience in general medicine and in psychiatry, an MRC Psych or similar post-graduate qualifications, and registration under Section 12 of The Mental Health Act is highly desirable. It is essential that the post holder has the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and shows a learning more about this specialist area.

Main duties of the job

The Management Structure within the Trust has recently been reviewed. The management arrangements are now devolved to the 5 Boroughs within the Trust. The National OCD/BDD Service as well as the Trustwide Service for OCD, BDD and other refractory anxiety disorders is part of the Specialist Services Directorate.

The National inpatient service offers the only 24 hour staffed dedicated unit for the most profoundly ill patients with OCD and BDD in the country. The admissions are all planned, and emergency admissions are not accepted. The expectation and aim for this unit is to continue developing the high specialist knowledge required in working with this unique group of patients.

There are 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). This will be reviewed regularly and may be modified reflecting changing needs within the service.
