Job summary

Richmond CAMHS is a well-established CAMHS service with an experienced multidisciplinary team of clinicians. The post holder would be working as part of an MDT that includes psychotherapy, family therapy, psychiatry, psychology. Typically, the team works with young people with a range of complex emotional needs, and with presentations that encompass anxiety disorders, neurodiversity, identity, relationships and both acute and enduring mental health problems (such as psychosis).

Our Tier 3 CAMHS services work closely with our partners across education, social care, and Adult Mental Health services.

We have a range of Child and Adolescent Mental Health services within the Trust including Mental Health in Schools Teams, an Adolescent Outreach Team, a general adolescent unit (Aquarius Ward), Learning Disabilities and Youth Offending camhs teams as well as a DBT service.

As well as regular individual supervision to support your development we offer a number of opportunities for support and training.

Main duties of the job

We are currently recruiting for either a full time or part time BABCP registered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) to work in our Tier 3 CAMHS services in the London Boroughs of Richmond.

This is an exciting opportunity for a CBT therapist with experience of working in CAMHS services to work in a supportive and friendly MDT CAMHS team to undertake assessment, and deliver individual and group interventions with children, young people and their families.

Richmond Tier 3 CAMHS is based at Barnes Hospital. This is easily accessible via public transport with the closest stations Mortlake and Barnes Bridge. We are due to relocate to Livingstone House, 2 Queens Road, Teddington, TW11 0LR.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

  1. To provide specialist CBT assessments of service users in the Child and Adolescent Mental Team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of from a variety of sources including, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients car
  2. To formulate and implement plans for CBT based upon an appropriate CBT framework for the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  3. To evaluate and make decisions about CBT treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic model
  4. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by CBT based care plans
  5. To provide specialist CBT advice, guidance, consultation and training to other professionals and parents or carers contributing directly to clients CBT formulation and treatment plan
  6. To contribute directly and indirectly to a CBT based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users under the care of the team
  7. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on l aspects of risk assessment and risk management
  8. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care, integrating the contribution of other professionals on the basis of client need
  9. To work with staff based across other CAMHS services, including crisis services, adult mental teams and transition workers, to plan and hand over the CBT assessment and treatment of patients that may continue after discharge from CAMHS services.

Teaching, training and supervision:

  1. To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines from a CBT therapist or other relevant clinician who meets BABCP supervision criteria and where appropriate other senior professional colleagues.
  2. To gain additional specialist experience and skills relevant to the service (as agreed with the professional lead and service manager) up to two sessions per week (pro-rata) within the service area within which the post holder is employed.
  3. To take part in regular internal continuing professional development and participate in external CPD which is linked to appraisal goals.
  4. To provide specialist CBT supervision and guidance to other clinicians and the non-statutory sector, as appropriate.

Research and Service Evaluation.

  1. To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work within the Trustwide service.
  2. To contribute to appropriate research audit and service evaluation with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision and identify areas for service improvement.
  3. To contribute to annual reports for the Trustwide service

Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development

  1. To receive regular supervision in managing the post holders practice in an effective and efficient way.
  2. To take part in regular professional appraisal, identifying areas for continuing professional development.
  3. To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and or organisational matters need addressing.
  4. To liaise with the team manager in order to ensure that the service runs effectively, safely and efficiently.
  5. To contribute to the development of skills and knowledge in the CAMHS service line.
  6. To participate in the development, evaluation and monitoring of the services operational policies and practice, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.

Other

  1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of CBT practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholders professional and team managers.
  2. To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in CBT across the service, by continuing to develop CBT skills, taking part in regular CBT supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of CBT.
  3. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the BABCP and Trust policies and procedures.
  4. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to mental health.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oQualification in a core graduate or post graduate mental health profession and registered with a professional body (mental health nurse, occupational therapist, clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist, social worker, Arts Therapist) or equivalent training and / or experience in a relevant Child and Adolescent mental health setting as agreed by the CAMHS service line Head of Psychology and Psychotherapies AND
  • oAccredited practitioner of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy [CBT] registered with the British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP)
  • oEvidence of regular post qualification development.

Desirable

  • oAdvanced training in Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapy.
