Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist / Counselling or Clinical Psychologist
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen at the Trust wide Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Body Dysmorphic Disorder Service. We are seeking a motivated CBT therapist to join our fantastic team, as a secondment or on a fixed term basis. There is the strong possibility that this post will be made permanent in due course.

Main duties of the job
The Trust wide OCD and BDD service provides outpatient CBT across all 5 boroughs of the Trust, offering clinic, home or community based assessments and treatments to people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder and other complex and severe anxiety disorders. Treatment is delivered on an individual or group basis. The clinician needs to be prepared to travel around the 5 boroughs and would be based at Springfield Hospital, though from Summer 2025 the base may move to Tolworth Hospital.
Skills and qualities that will be valued in successful applicants include an ability to work independently and take initiative, alongside being an excellent team player.
Applicants could come from a range of professionals but must be appropriately qualified and accredited, or working towards accreditation, with BABCP, or be registered with HCPC if applying as a Clinical Psychologist. It is desirable that applicants have experience of working with OCD and BDD, and it is essential that applicants are keen to learn new skills within this specialism.

Our friendly, supportive and experienced team, comprising of CBTs with varied core professional backgrounds, a Psychologist and Psychiatrists meet weekly for referrals, assessment feedbacks and peer supervision. We are a small team (3.8 wte) with the majority of us having worked in this specialism for many years. We welcome new ideas and fresh innovation, and where possible support this in action.
Tooting (Wandsworth)
Our Trust headquarters is located within the impressive grounds of Springfield University Hospital in Tooting and we also operate in nearly 100 other locations throughout the UK. This is easily accessible via the Northern Line (Tooting Bec Station) and via private transport. The Trust provides subsidised parking fares for all our substantive staff. Our main site is located immediately next to Tooting High Street where staff can easily access a range of shops, cafs and restaurants.

Job responsibilities
To provide a specialist cognitive behavioural assessment and therapy service to patients referred to the Trustwide Service for OCD/BDD. This will include offering advice and consultation on patients psychological care to other healthcare workers Trust-wide. The Trust wide service offers specialist input throughout the severity spectrum. These interventions are offered in a hub and Spoke format with the therapists spending most of their working day in the community and delivering much of the treatment in the patients homes.
This service, operating within recognised professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trusts policies and procedures. The post holder is expected to contribute to research , audit and service development within the service.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This post is part of the Specialist Services Directorate. The post holder will work clinically within tertiary care settings, seeing adults (people aged 18 and over).
KEY RESULT AREAS
Clinical:
- To identify the nature, severity and complexity of adult patients mental health problems, and to advise both patients and their referrers on appropriate management of those problems, enabling referral to other highly specialist services and/or non-statutory services where appropriate.
- To formulate and implement plans for the intensive psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods of intervention that are based upon evidence of treatment efficacy.
Teaching, training and supervision:
- To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines from a CBT therapist and where appropriate other senior professional colleagues.
- To gain additional specialist experience and skills relevant to the service (as agreed with the professional lead and service manager) up to two sessions per week (pro-rata) within the service area within which the post holder is employed.
- To take part in regular internal continuing professional development and participate in external CPD which is linked to appraisal goals.
- To provide specialist supervision and guidance to other clinicians and the non-statutory sector, as appropriate.
Research and Service Evaluation.
- To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work within the Trust wide service.
- To contribute to appropriate research audit and service evaluation with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision and identify areas for service improvement.
- To contribute to annual reports for the Trust wide service.
Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
- To receive regular supervision in managing the post holders practice in an effective and efficient way.
- To take part in regular professional appraisal, identifying areas for continuing professional development.
- To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and or organisational matters need addressing.
Other
- To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self governance in accordance with professional codes of practice and Trust policies and procedure.
- To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy and related disciplines.
