Job summary

The sleep service at Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for a range respiratory as well as the provision and follow-up of patients on CPAP and NIV.

The post- holder will play a key role in the smooth running of sleep diagnostics, setting up and downloading home sleep study equipment, monitoring in-hospital overnight studies and maintaining diagnostic equipment.

As part of the wider respiratory physiology department, the role also involves a rotation into the lung function department. You will contribute to discussions on service development and strategic planning and assisting with integrated care pathways in the local community.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the efficient delivery of the sleep diagnostics service by ensuring timely and accurate download, cleaning and set-up of home and I/P sleep study equipment
  • Acquisition of high quality physiological data including continuous overnight monitoring of sleep patients
  • After training, able to perform routine troubleshooting and recognise and respond to common artefacts in sleep recordings.
  • Preparation and technical hook of patients for a range of respiratory sleep investigations according to established standards
  • After training, perform a range of basic lung function measurements and assist with more complex investigations
  • To provide support to patients as required during their time in the department
  • To promote good practice in control of infection
  • To assist with routine administrative issues such as booking follow-up appointments
