Senior Staff Nurse Surgical/Elective Nurse

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Nurse to join our dynamic Surgical/Elective team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled nurse to contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within a fast-paced and evolving environment.The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting elective surgical pathways, ensuring safe and effective care from pre-operative assessment through to discharge. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, lead on clinical decision-making, and support junior staff in their development.This role requires excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills, as well as a strong clinical background in surgical nursing. Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.
  • Act as a clinical leader within the team, supporting junior staff and promoting best practice.
  • Coordinate patient care across the surgical pathway, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative support, and post-operative recovery.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective discharge planning.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with Trust policies and NMC standards.
  • Support the induction, training, and supervision of new and junior staff.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compassion, and continuous learning within the team.
