Job summary
The Cancer Administration team at Homerton is a passionate team who support the Trust to run safe and effective pathways for patients with suspected and confirmed cancer. The team work to ensure national Cancer Waiting Times targets are met through the tracking of patients on pathways. The team are also responsible for the booking of all new suspected cancer appointments after referrals by GPs.
This is an exciting new role, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on cancer pathways in City & Hackney and wider North East London. The candidate should also have experience of delivering change/improvement work and be able to work autonomously to deliver the project aims.
They will be guided by objectives given by the Cancer Performance Manager but will need to show initiative in identifying areas for pathway improvement and delivering the improvement by engaging stakeholders from various teams.
It is highly recommended that any potential candidates familiarise themselves with the National Cancer Waiting Times Targets and Guidance.
Main duties of the job
In order to diagnose and treat patients quickly the initial part of the pathway is crucial. To support this we need to ensure:
- Patients attend appointments and are aware they have been referred for suspected cancer.
- GPs include all relevant information in referrals
- GPs utilise all appropriate direct access diagnostic investigations
- Patients have all the information they required to engage with their pathways
This Project Officer role has been newly created to support pathway improvement from the point of GP referral. Especially focused on the above points.
