Homerton Healthcare are looking to appoint Clinical Fellow to work across Urgent Care with a special interest in Medical Education. The potholder's will be asked to commit to fixed term posts of 6-12 months.

This is a thrilling opportunity for doctors taking time out of training to broaden their skills and experience in both general and acute medicine and surgery.

The role will provide an exciting opportunity for the postholder to develop their skills in acute care, focusing on the management of deteriorating patients. The postholder will work alongside ACCS trainees across a range of different roles including; medical take, ambulatory care and SHO on the Acute Medical Unit. The post holder will also fulfil the 'deteriorating patient' SHO role as part of the hospital at night team. This will involve working in close partnership with the Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) in the assessment and management of deteriorating medical (and surgical) patients.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will also be given dedicated time to work within the Medical Education team. They will be given formal training (via train the trainer course) to develop your skills as a clinical teacher and facilitator. The postholder will then lead on implementing and developing the in-situ-simulation teaching across the Acute Medicine Department. You will be supported to do so but the Medical Education team and given at least 2 clinical sessions to do so. You will also be given the opportunity to develop a teaching program across the acute care unit.

The post-holder is also encouraged to pursue other, non-clinical, activities. Opportunities include development of procedural competencies, specialty clinics/theatre and critical care experience. Previous post holders have also led large quality improvement projects and clinical informatics improvements. A study budget is available to facilitate external learning opportunities and in house teaching can also be provided. Dedicated teaching is available those sitting clinical examinations (such as PACES) can also be provided. The nature of this work is flexible and will be tailored to the individual's requirements.

Essential

  • MBBS / MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Permission to work in the UK (i.e. appropriate visa and/or work permit)
  • Evidence of successful completion of Foundation year 1 & 2 or equivalent

Desirable

  • Evidence of completion of CMT or equivalent
  • MRCP Part 1
  • MRCEM part A (or equivalent)

  • 6 months experience at ST (IMT) 1 and above
