Job summary

The role of the Ward Manager is to provide leadership, management and support to the ward team. The post holder is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ward, ensuring high standards of patient care, staff scheduling, compliance with safety and quality standards, budget management and resource allocation. The potholder act as a liaison with families and other members of the multidisciplinary team; lead staff development and implement quality improvements on the ward.

Strong leadership, clinical expertise and communication skills are essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

Patient Care Management:

  • Ensure that all patients receive high quality, person centered care.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care to meet individual patient needs.
  • Monitor and maintain clinical standards, safety protocols, and infection control.

Staff Management:

  • Lead, support and manage a team of nurses, healthcare assistants, and support staff.
  • Schedule staff shifts, manage rotas, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Handle recruitment,training, and performance appraisals of team members.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct audits, quality assessments and implement improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with NHS guidelines, CQC standards.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Manage the ward's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Order and manage stock, equipment and supplies needed for ward operations.
