Job summary

The appointed candidate will:

  • Support the Head of Nursing and lead Consultant for Gynaecology to co-ordinate patient safety and clinical governance activities within the gynaecology . The main responsibilities will include reviewing case notes, investigating incidents and near misses and analysing themes and trends from incidents and near misses.
  • Support and provide guidance to all staff within gynaecology services in relation to patient safety and clinical governance
  • To contribute to the trust and divisional clinical risk management strategy. And provide support in monitoring the effectiveness of the trust's risk management strategy.
  • To provide feedback on incidents and progress the implementation of recommendations from multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Work with the leads for clinical risk to identify clinical risk issues and implement changes in practice.
  • Promote and maintain cohesive working relationships with medical, nursing and other specialists teams
  • Support the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to care.
  • Maintain a clinical and leadership role.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • Conduct risk assessments and suggest and influence changes in practice.
  • Lead on, identify and support appropriate staff with investigations of clinical incidents, adverse events and serious untoward incidents in a timely, non-judgemental and comprehensive manner.
  • Review clinical incidents which have been reported via the Datix database system and ensure investigation and escalation where appropriate. Ensure that staff receive appropriate feedback following the investigation of an incident.
  • Attend the weekly CLIP meeting and feedback on the actions taken following incidents and investigation progress.
  • Maintain effective channels of communication to feedback to staff the outcomes of clinical incident investigation.
  • Co-ordinate round table meetings to facilitate timely debriefing and investigation of incidents and clinical near misses.
