The Children's 0-19 Service brings together health visitors and school nurses to deliver the Healthy Child Programme which aims to improve public health outcomes. An exciting opportunity has arisen to sponsor highly motivated qualified nurses interested in undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing training starting in January 2025. We are looking for nurses interested in training as health visitors. Students hoping to access this programme must be currently registered with the NMC as a Midwife or Nurse in any field of nursing including adult, child, learning disability or mental health.
This course is fully funded by Health Education England in partnership with Hertfordshire University and all students will be expected to apply via the University website.
Applicants will have a UK degree, or other qualification at an equivalent level, in a health-related subject. Clinically experienced health professionals without a degree who have evidence of study at degree level study (level 6) in the last 5 years will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake the required study with the affiliated university achieving outcomes in both practice and university-based learning. They will be required to work within the community setting, facilitated by the Practice assessor/supervisor.
The course is a full-time course comprising of an academic component (50% of the course) at University and Practical Placement (50% of the course) anywhere within the Community (Hackney and City of London)
The postholder is expected to work towards gaining the standards of proficiency for entry to the NMC register/recordable for Specialist Community Practitioner.
To gain the knowledge and skills and competence required to exercise higher levels of judgment, discretion and decision making in clinical care focusing on four broad areas:
- Clinical practice
- Community Engagement
- Clinical practice development
- Leadership in clinical practice
