Job summary

The Trust wishes to appoint a permanent Health Care Assistant to work within the sexual health team. You will be required to work across the 4 sites based at Clifden Centre (Homerton), Ivy Centre (Hoxton), John Scott Health centre and 80 Leadenhall as and when required.

The successful candidates will possess good communication skills, with the ability to work using your own initiative as well as working as part of a team. We would like someone who has a non-judgmental and empathetic attitude.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone that has an interest in sexual health and wants to work in this exciting area of healthcare.

Working hours: 37.5 per week

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will consist of

  • Competently deliver asymptomatic testing clinics, processing test samples in accordance to local policy and perform venepuncture when required
  • Be able to perform microscopy following training
  • Work across the HSHS sites as needed and support clinic service development such as evening and weekend and out-reach service provision
  • To test identified symptomatic patients for sexually transmitted infections before clinical consultation to the agreed local pathway
  • Undertake low risk HIV point of care testing

JMC HCA

  • Support phlebotomy, pregnancy testing, urinalysis and vital sign recording for other clinicians
  • Obtain accurate sexual histories and perform asymptomatic STI screen as indicated
  • Accurately report information gained to the clinician caring for the patient
  • Clear accurate documentation of all interventions in the patients' notes
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Ensure clinical rooms are stocked according to JMC room checklist
  • Delivery actions according to management of missed appointments protocol
  • Be responsible for the appropriate delivery of specimens to the correct labs
  • Collect medication from pharmacy when requested by JMC team
  • Assist patients maintaining access to their medicines
  • Order and maintain stock of patient information leaflets
  • (Management of HCA paper list when available - TBC aspirational
