Job summary
Diagnosis, treatment and continuing care of patients presenting as emergencies or referred; teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other staff; conducting research and participating in development activities of the department.
To provide, in conjunction with Consultant colleagues at the Homerton University Hospital a comprehensive out-patient, day stay and in-patient service for local residents and for those referred from further afield to the breast unit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to actively engage with the work of the North East London Cancer Alliance, including attendance at meetings where required.
In addition to service development, the appointee will be expected to take part in the routine management and administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of clinical departments and the supervision of junior medical staff. He or she will be expected to take an active role in the wider management aspects of the division at Homerton, including involvement in contracting, service specifications and quality specifications, where appropriate. The appointee will also be expected to take an active part in multi-disciplinary audit, to be involved in attempting to improve the quality of care to patients and the timeliness of communications with general practitioners, and to achieve improvements in clinical risk management.
About us
The team consists of 2 consultants, of which this post holder will be one. The consultants are supported by a Specialty Doctor and two Senior Clinical Fellows. A Core Surgical Trainee also rotates through the team every 6 months. The team also includes an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who will work alongside two Breast Care Nurses and an Open Access Follow-up Nurse supporting patients within the breast pathway. The multidisciplinary team at Homerton includes radiology colleagues who are key in ensuring we provide our patients with an effective one-stop pathway.
