Job summary

This is a 6-12-month post with a possibility of extension for a second year depending on clinical and research assessment. The post holder will be trained in all aspects of general fertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART). Activities will include outpatient assessment, ultrasound scanning, monitoring of ART treatment (ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, IVF treatment, ICSI, trans-vaginal oocyte retrievals and tubal patency assessment, including hysterosalpingograms and Hycosy). They will also be exposed to sperm retrieval techniques and trans-abdominal oocyte retrieval as well as reproductive surgery.

The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in the Fertility Preservation programme. The post holder will be encouraged to be involved in all aspects of Clinical Governance within the Fertility Department; they can attend the Monthly Fertility Governance Quality and Safety Meeting and to ensure timely reporting of both internal and external incidents. The post holder will be encouraged to take an active part in each HFEA, CQC, ISO inspection and the preparation and implementation of the post-inspection action plans.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold the responsibility of coordinating IVF treatments in the fertility unit, which can include co-ordinating events with the wider team and other departments within the Trust and it is essential that all communication is effective and efficient at all stages of the process. It is expected that documentation is completed in real time within the Patient's electronic notes and any supplementary paperwork is completed and scanned where applicable. All communication and information sharing is to be carried out in line with Information Governance and HFEA regulations

The post holder will be a key member of the clinical team and participate fully in the clinical team meetings and wider service discussions. They will be expected to manage their patient caseload under supervision from the Consultant Team and HFEA Person Responsible (PR). The Lead Consultant will have overall responsibility for the Clinical Fellow post.

The post holder will be an integral part of the clinical team and be involved in achieving the hospital targets on outpatient care and providing a positive patient experience. The post holder will be expected to communicate clearly with patients on all aspects of their treatment plan, including legal /HFEA requirements as well as delays or issues as they occur. It is expected that the post holder will under guidance hold difficult conversations and manage patient expectations.

About us

The new Management Team at The Homerton Fertility Centre are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Fellow to join the Medical team and be part of the multidisciplinary Service.

It is an established Unit covering all aspects of Fertility, Reproductive, Andrology, Fertility preservation and Minimal Access Surgery. The Unit has strong links with the urology and Oncology Departments to cover male infertility and fertility preservation for patients with cancer

The Homerton Fertility Centre offers comprehensive assisted conception services, has contracts with 9 CCGs in the Northeast London Area and North Central London, and performs around 900 fresh IVF/ICSI cycles and 600 FERs annually,

The successful candidate will join a service which provides fertility services for a diverse population from across East Central London.
