Job summary

Applications are invited for appointment to a Simulation Fellow placement to start in August 2022. This post offers an exciting opportunity for doctors to develop their experience and skills as medical educators and emergency physicians. Fellowships will consist of a 12 month post, with time split 60:40 between the Emergency Department and the Simulation Centre, joining our award winning simulation team.

Main duties of the job

By the end of the post, the successful candidate will have completed the following learning objectives: 1. Have run, developed and directed a simulation course

  1. Presented at a national or international simulation conference
  2. Completed various simulation-based research outputs

4. Developed skills and experience in medical education and Emergency Medicine.

About us

Homerton University Hospital Emergency Department is an inner city unit that saw over 129,000 patients in 2019/20. We are proud to have twice been given a rating of 'outstanding' for the Emergency Department from the CQC. T The phenomenally popular Resuscitative Intervention Procedure Skills (RIPS) course is at a stage of expansion and the appointee will be well placed to be a part of this exciting opportunity

The Simulation Suite was officially opened in 2011 and has gone from strength to strength. It is equipped with hi-fidelity manikins including a Laerdal Sim-Man, Sim Junior, Sim-Baby and Sim-NewB. The suite also has laparoscopic, GI-Bronch and ultrasound simulators and Virtual reality facilities. There is a busy calendar of post-graduate and under graduate courses being run by a diverse multi-disciplinary faculty with new courses being developed on a regular basis. We have a robust in situ simulation Programme in the Emergency Department which the post-holder will run, with supervision, and also will be involved with in-situ simulations throughout the hospital.

Homerton Hospital has been extremely favorably reviewed with regards to the standard of care it delivers. The CQC assessment of the hospital in 2020 Based onan aggregation of ratings across all of the core services provided from this location, the hospitalhas beenratedoutstanding.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with a license to practice from the General Medical Council, or eligible for same
  • MRCEM PART C or MRCEM Intermediate

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Completion of core competencies in ACCS training or equivalent.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching ability
  • Evidence of leadership ability
  • Familiarity with current IT software packages
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching
  • ALS, APLS & ATLS provider or equivalent

Desirable

  • Team building skills
  • Advanced life support course instructor (ALS/ATLS/APLS)
  • Completion of Level 1 Ultrasound course
  • FRCEM
