This is a high impact leadership role at the heart of one of the Trusts key clinical services. As Service Manager for Cardiology, you will drive the operational performance and future development of cardiology services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. Working closely with the Clinical Lead, Matron, senior clinicians and the General Manager, you will ensure services are safe, efficient and truly patient-centred across the entire cardiology pathway, from outpatients and diagnostics through to interventional care, inpatient flow and community interfaces.

Main duties of the job

You will be a visible and credible leader, working at the heart of the cardiology service and building strong, trusted relationships with clinicians and senior leaders. Acting as the bridge between clinical and operational teams, you will provide clear direction, maintain grip on performance and keep the service focused on delivering excellent patient outcomes.

Using data, insight and sound judgement, you will anticipate challenges, drive improvement and make confident decisions in a complex and fastmoving environment. You will play a central role in shaping the future of cardiology services, leading workforce and medical job planning, supporting teams through change and contributing to service transformation and systemwide collaboration to improve access, reduce variation and deliver sustainable care.

  • Lead the daytoday operational management of cardiology services, ensuring safe, highquality and patientfocused care
  • Deliver and maintain performance against RTT, diagnostics, cancer and access standards, driving timely recovery actions where required
  • Lead capacity and demand planning to maximise clinic utilisation, diagnostic capacity and workforce effectiveness
  • Coordinate and support consultant and SAS doctor job planning, ensuring accuracy, compliance and alignment to service need
  • Provide leadership to administrative and clinical support teams, supporting workforce planning, recruitment, retention and development
  • Manage the cardiology budget, contributing to cost improvement programmes and robust business cases for service development
  • Maintain strong clinical governance, supporting incidents, risks, complaints, audits and compliance with national guidance
  • Lead and contribute to service transformation, pathway redesign, elective recovery and digital innovation
  • Work collaboratively with Integrated Care System partners to improve access, reduce variation and strengthen cardiology provision for the local population

  • Recognised post-graduate management qualification or equivalent experience

  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Proven general and operational management experience to include the management of a large multi-disciplinary group of staff part of which to have been in the NHS
  • A proven record of success in managing significant operational / strategic change whilst also developing and maintaining the provision of a high quality service, within a clinical setting, with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of team working and building and maintaining effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Experience of working with external organisations (ICB, Primary Care, Local Authority, Community Services, Voluntary Sector) D
  • Experience in managing quality/ clinical audit/ clinical governance/ risk management issues
