Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner for Elderly Care

Job summary

The Physiotherapy team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital is looking for a motivated and dynamic band 4 assistant practitioner to join the Elderly Care team.

Your role will involve working with patients across our 3 elderly care wards taking on an identified case load while working under indirect supervision. You will be responsible for attending MDT board meetings to represent physiotherapy and facilitate discharges.

This is a fast paced, acute environment requiring a flexible approach and an ability to learn fast and deal with conflicting demands. You will require a willingness to complete work based competencies to for fill this role.

This is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner for Elderly Care will function as part of the Physiotherapy team within the Therapies Department under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist. They will utilise the knowledge and skills gained through the Foundation degree and/or equivalent work experience to support Physiotherapists in the assessment and implementation of Physiotherapy with inpatients referred to the service.

To undertake skilled and specialist support work with elderly patients following guidelines which have been agreed and set by the Physiotherapists.

To be responsible for own caseload on an elderly care ward (treatment/liaison/reports/case conferences) progressing and amending treatment programs within agreed parameters as necessary. This may involve making clinical judgments.

To supervise and support more junior staff and physiotherapy students on placement in the elderly care setting.
