Job summary
The Therapies department is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly specialised physiotherapist with previous experience in acute areas of physiotherapy to lead our Surgery and Critical Care team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.You will utilise the knowledge and skills gained through previous experience to lead in the assessment and implementation of physiotherapy intervention within our 10 bedded critical care unit, as well as across our 3 surgical wards (including the recently opened level 1 unit).
If successful, you will be required to work flexibly across multiple areas and specialities including orthopaedics, vascular surgery, general surgery, amputees and some oncology patients.
You will be supported with yearly appraisals and dedicated CPD time, and will be involved in providing weekly in-service training and regular supervision to more junior staff.
Main duties of the job
- On a daily basis to provide skilled team leadership in planning and delivering thehigh standards of physiotherapy assessment, management, treatment and advice to patients ITU/HDU and surgical wards as necessary.
- To take a major role in the advanced assessment and management of patients within this specialty who may have a complex presentation and / or a multi-pathology presentation, determining best delivery of care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- To work as an autonomous professional according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) "Rules of professional conduct" and "standards of physiotherapy", and the Health Professions Council's (HPC) regulations
- To undertake service reviews / audits in order to evaluate quality, efficiency and outcomes with a view to implementing change of practice, to ensure that a high standard of clinical practice and patient care is maintained
- Take a lead role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of physiotherapists / non-qualified physiotherapy staff & students and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) staff in physiotherapeutic care of patients within this specialty
