Job summary

The Ophthalmology department at PAH NHS Trust is looking to appoint an ophthalmology Failsafe Officer on a permanent basis to provide a robust, efficient and high quality failsafe system for the Diabetic Retinopathy pathway, Medical Retina, Cornea, Paeds, Vitreoretinal and Oculoplastic Services in line with hospital protocol and national guidelines. The successful candidate will be based within the Eye Unit at PAH NHS Trust, although on occasions there may be a requirement to travel to other sites.

Main duties of the job

You will assist with overseeing the failsafe administration functions in Ophthalmology, including patient tracking and reporting to contribute to improvements in the quality of patient care and also data. You will work closely with the Consultant Ophthalmology Lead for relevant services but will also work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team across the eye unit.

You should be able to demonstrate competency in the use of computer packages, information systems and database management, and previous NHS experience in a similar role would be desirable but not essential as training will be given. You will be expected to have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise their workload, a caring disposition and degree of flexibility are desirable.

This position requires the ability to work autonomously, communication with a wide range of staff, and attention to detail. You will be able to deliver various reports as required for the department. You will be an important part of the team delivering a high quality service to patients treated by this specialist department. You should be able to demonstrate administrative experience, excellent customer service skills and a proactive attitude whilst working sensitively within a team
