Job summary
The head of catering is responsible for all strategic catering operations and will have direct operational responsibility for the Catering team including budgetary responsibility.
To be responsible in ensuring a quality service that ensures the catering provision is appropriate, effective and responsive to the strategic needs of the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Building and developing catering service strategies, development of work plans and service reports for escalation to senior EFM management team and other stakeholders.
Business and financial planning of the catering service
Working with operational services, group leads to drive performance for all catering operations trust wide

- Expert knowledge of catering strategy acquired by professional qualification or vocational level 4 plus MBA or equivalent experience
- Advanced Food Hygiene Diploma.
- An active awareness of industry trends and innovations of current issues in the NHS relating to Catering Services
- In depth knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene legislation and comprehensive H.A.C.C.P systems.
Desirable
- Membership of the Institute of Hospitality
- Membership of Hospital Caterers Association (HCA).
Experience
Essential
- Experience working at a senior level within similar organisation.
- Experience in menu planning and the provision of nutritionally robust food and fluids to hospital patients
- Proven track record in leading, co-ordinating and developing a large, multi-skilled and multi-faceted workforce.
- Previous managerial experience of high volume, large scale catering contact management operations and procedures within both the commercial food service sector and/or an NHS catering operation.
