Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational leader with an interest in service design and development to lead a cross border team of community midwives.
Currently the team are offering the initial midwifery contact but we are hoping to grow and develop this service. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a quality improvement workstream to enhance care to the women living in Hertfordshire who wish to birth at PAH.
You must have a strong record of championing personalised care and service user voice as co-production will be at the heart of this service development.
Main duties of the job
Provide individualised, women centered care for women/pregnant people.
Provide continuity of care with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in the community, hospital and the woman's home.
Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women at the right place, and at the right time. Act as an advocate for women, whilst safeguarding her and her wider family and social group when required.
Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women.
Enhance the woman's experience of care and ensure that the needs of the woman are placed at the centre of care.
Have an understanding of barriers that impact or inhibit women from accessing antenatal care.
Advocate for women in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth.
Ensure safe and effective clinical practice ensuring knowledge, skills and competencies are current.
Act as a clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge.
Share highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and high experience.
Manage the team with regard to sickness, roster, appraisal and education

You should be an expert Clinical Practitioner providing evidence-based woman centered care.
To offer midwifery advice and support to all women accessing care within the community setting both antenatal and postnatal
To support and develop community led care provided by midwives all women
To develop systems to improve access to specialist maternity services for womenwishing to have their care at Princess Alexandra Hospital
Work closely with the members of the maternity multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive clinical service
To work closely with the maternity teams, Matron and Better Births lead midwife to implement the recommendations with the Better Births agendas and national drivers
Provide a service for postnatal follow up for women, offering pre-conceptual advice and information
Develop and deliver multidisciplinary educational packages with the Home Birth lead and Practice Development Midwife
Accurately monitor and asses the success of the service within agreed frameworks, with emphasis on benchmarking and the future planning against National Service Frameworks
Work closely with the low risk team to collect and input data for audit and research purposes
Provide individual care to clients as appropriate, including education, support and counselling to enable and empower women in their new role as parents
Provide phone line support to all women who access our service
Lead recruitment and retention within the community team
Ensure robust sickness management practices are embedded into the department
Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources; fulfil the responsibility of budget holder
Monitor and evaluate health, safety and security of self and others and implement best practice in the ward/department area
Act on concerns reported by team members or service users
Compile and communicate monthly reports on a consistent basis
