Job Summary

This post is solely offered to provide OMFS out of hours on call cover at PAH, Harlow. The duties encompass attending, reviewing, and treating OMFS patients in the Emergency Department at PAH as well as providing out of hours cover to the OMFS in-patients at PAH. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend emergency theatre sessions as required to both treat and assist in treating OMFS emergencies.

The non-clinical responsibilities include supporting the trust in terms of its contractual obligations to its commissioners and in achieving the trust targets. The post-holder will be bound by the conditions in their contract and also the GMC's expectations as set out in "Good Medical Practice."

Main duties of the job

Scope and Range

This is a 3PA appointment at PAHT for a permanent position.

The appointee will support the Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants caring for a local population of up to 500,000. Acute admissions/emergencies and elective work are managed at PAHT.

The Department currently covers all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and has developed sub-specialisation within Skin malignancy.

There is a busy trauma and elective workload in all areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and we have a comprehensive surgery programme

The successful applicant will be expected to participate actively in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of emergency patients and is solely an out-of-hours post to cover OMFS on call duties including care of in-patients and OMFS emergency attendances.

The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues and our management team to ensure the service is delivered in line with best practice.

The post-holder will:

  • Work with colleagues to provide a service with the highest standard of care.
  • Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&E.
  • Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services, and primary care.
  • Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Be an active member of the audit programme.

The post is part-time, 3 PAs per week with 1 in 6 on call commitments with prospective cover.
