Job summary

The post holder is responsible for providing an efficient, high quality and comprehensive income reporting service. This requires the production of information upon which to monitor and bill for the Trusts £350m income target. This includes the provision of timely, appropriate advice and recommendations to directorates on the activity upon which reported income is based.

The work is highly complex and demanding. It frequently requires working under pressure to challenging deadlines and responding to the various needs of the organisation including director level queries.

This will require a high level understanding of the Trusts income planning assumptions and a detailed understanding of the Trust's Acute Commissioning Contracts along with an equivalent knowledge of the NHS Payment Scheme (NHSPS).

Main duties of the job

To lead the Trust reporting of highly complex income streams, predominantly associated with the provision of healthcare activities, but also including Training and Education Research.

To ensure that the ledger is reconciled on a monthly basis and income is reconciled back to contractual values and over-performance.

To complete high quality annual accounts working papers to ensure full reconciliations to contracts.

To lead and take responsibility for income forecasting at Trust, divisional and specialty level

To maintain the plan against the on SLAM reflecting any changes as necessary to ensure that the plan is correct on the ledger and other internal reporting software.

Job responsibilities

To support the processes to ensure all agreements are fully monitored and all income variances identified in line with contractual requirements to ensure strict quality, price and performance standards are met at all times and appropriate corrective remedial actions are identified and implemented where necessary.

To arrange and manage regular monitoring meetings with Divisional Finance Business Partners to explain income and actions required arising from analysis of monitoring reports to ensure contracts are delivering service priorities.

To ensure responses from division associated with commissioners queries are relayed back ensure organisational adherence to strict national timetables, escalating promptly as required.

To cost up the income associated with small, large and strategic business cases providing strong, robust challenge to divisional assumptions

Required to be assertive at all levels within the organisational to ensure compliance with national terms, to avoid unnecessary disputes for the organisation

To undertake analysis in a systematic manner, to identify trends and variances. To use information to forecast performance and future planning.

To provide information regarding contract performance, forecasting, through regular contact and correspondence and formal presentation as necessary.

To represent the contracts team at internal and external performance meetings. External meetings are often, long, arduous and highly confrontational but the job holder is required to remain calm and professional and often deal with challenging questioning from several other people, often simultaneously.

To provide relevant expert advice and support to all internal customers on commercial aspects, financial options and affordability and other major service contracting activities.

Job holder is required to interpret and implement highly complex, ambiguous national policy across the organisation and work in an arena of considerable uncertainty.

To horizon scan new business opportunities, including keeping abreast of commissioning intentions, monitoring relevant publications for tenders, exploring options to form partnership, consortia, or sub-contractor relationships with other providers and identify opportunities in line with the business plan.

To work with service leads to identify resource implications required for full implementation of income Service Development Plans

To support the Head of Strategy, Income and Contracts in identifying and pursuing all new business opportunities
