The Oncology team at Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking for a Trust Grade Doctor to join the Williams Day Unit.
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who seeking experience of working in a Cancer unit. We are looking for an enthusiastic, independent doctor who can work well in a multi-disciplinary team and can deal compassionately and empathetically with our cancer patients.
Main duties of the job
This role provides ample opportunity for CV-boosting activities such as audits and service development projects. We would expect the appointed doctor to have at least one poster presented at an external meeting by the end of their time with us.
It is an ideal job for those who currently hold or are working towards their MRCP and are considering a career in Cancer. You will be well supported by the Consultants, Speciality Trust doctors and all the specialist nurses who work on Williams Day Unit.
The main aim of this role is to provide medical cover for the chemotherapy day unit and support the oncology clinics and the Acute Oncology team.

Job responsibilities
- The doctors will be required to provide medical cover to the chemotherapy unit. They will be expected to cross cover to ensure that the unit has access to a clinician.
- The appointees will provide support to the oncology outpatient clinics covering Urology, Breast, lung and GI cancers.
- The doctor will also support the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and assess patients with SACT toxicities. They will be supported by the AOS team, the unit Speciality doctor and the Consultants.
- They will be responsible for assessing any patients that attend WDU chemotherapy unit who is unwell
- They will be responsible for the appropriate documentation and communication of plan with the treating team.
- They will be responsible for dealing with acute oncology patients who the AOS team may discuss with them. This may involve bringing patients to the unit for assessment and writing prescriptions.
- They may be required to help co-ordinate referrals and investigations of patients.
- They will assist in the assessment of patients in outpatient clinics.
