Job summary

An exciting opportunity is available at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAH) for a Trust grade doctor to join the Acute Medicine team.

This post will provide you with excellent experience of acute & general medicine in a busy setting with daily Consultant supervision. This role is particularly ideal as a stepping stone to gain practical experience prior to applying for training rotations such as ACCS or IMT.

The Acute department is located over three new areas within the hospital setting, including our new purpose-built Adult Assessment Unit (AAU), our new Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) and our Short Stay Unit.

Main duties of the job

You will rotate through all areas of acute medicine, and your working pattern will include on-call shifts. The acute medicine service at Princess Alexandra currently provides a 27-bedded medical assessment unit, 28-bedded short stay unit and our Same Day Emergency Care Unit which sees approximately 70 patients per day.

Your main duties in this role are:

  • To communicate and build good working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team within Acute and other specialties.
  • To ensure optimal record keeping and discharge summaries to guarantee continuity of care.
  • To assist the Trust in reaching external targets without compromising good quality patient care.
  • To actively participate in the departmental teaching, audits and Quality improvement projects.
  • To realise and be committed to adult and child safeguarding requirements.
  • To fulfil the statutory and mandatory training programme as per the Trust policy
  • To uphold confidentiality of all patient records and Trust information. Maintain a clean, safe environment and adhere to Trust's infection control standards
  • Use study leave appropriately to keep up the knowledge and skills required for the post
  • Communicate with the named Clinical Supervisor, agree on professional development plan and fulfil periodic appraisal as per Trust policy

In return, the Department expects the post holder to adhere to the Trust's values, policies and internal professional standards at all times to ensure patient safety and smooth running of the department. All duties will be undertaken within the Acute setting at PAH.
