We are looking to appoint motivated and enthusiastic newly qualified midwives who can provide high quality care. A well balanced year long Preceptorship Programme is available. Opportunities are in the hospital and the community setting, the midwifery role will be rotational to ensure that skills are maintained in all areas of midwifery. This will enhance future career choices as well as maintaining safe holistic person centred care.

Your preceptorship package will include rotation through all areas of maternity services with the aim to join the continuity of care model. We currently three established continuity of carer teams and we are building more this year.

Job summary

The post holder will work in all areas of the maternity service and is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, for mothers/parents and babies in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, ensuring liaison with all relevant agencies.

This post is a transition post from training to practice, which will enable the post holder to obtain the required experience in clinical midwifery practice to successfully achieve the required competences that are essential to move through to a Band 6 role. In order to support this transition the post holder will be supported through a twelve-month preceptorship programme by experienced midwives in each location.

They will maintain correct documentation in accordance with NMC Midwives Rules and Code of Practice.

The post holder will work in a variety of settings, undertake homebirth or hospital birth and work towards and maintain competencies for adult and neonatal resuscitation, suturing, cannulation and venepuncture as appropriate. In addition, they will take responsibility for a clinical area or workload in the absence of a more senior midwife; maintaining skills in all aspects of midwifery care on a rotational basis.

The post holder will provide a full range of health education, social care and advice to childbearing women/people; liaising with multi-disciplinary/agency groups to continually improve maternity care for childbearing women/people and their families, being responsive to the needs and obtain user views as appropriate.
